Description
Oat Groats for Cooking & Milling
Oat groats are whole, minimally processed oats. Having only had their outer shell removed, they retain high nutritional value, and can be used in a variety of ways. Oats have been cultivated for thousands of years – archaeological evidence shows that people have been making a form of gruel from oats for a very long time.
Full of phytochemicals, oat groats also have both soluble and insoluble fibre. With vitamin E, several B-vitamins, calcium, magnesium and potassium, oats also have some of the trace minerals selenium, copper, zinc, iron and manganese.
When oat groats are produced, the oats are first hulled, removing the inedible outer husk. What remains is a whole grain, which can be processed into a range of products including oat flour. However, being whole they can take a long time to prepare and cook, so whole oat groats are best lightly crushed or cracked, making them cook more quickly.
Available in several sizes, the 5 and 10Kg options can also be purchased in a Food Safe Bucket with Lid.
These useful buckets are also sold separately.
