The name lavender comes from the Latin root lavare, which means “to wash.” It may have earned this name due to being frequently used in baths to help purify the body and spirit. The herb has also been used as a remedy for a range of ailments from insomnia and fatigue, to anxiety and depression. Research has confirmed that lavender produces slight calming, soothing, and sedative effects when its scent is inhaled.
Where Does Our Lavender Come From?
These lavender flower buds are harvested and specially sourced from the finest growing region of Provence in France; without doubt one of the best known places for the highest quality Lavender flower buds in the world.
Grown at an altitude of 1300m above sea level, the buds have that enhanced blue colour and a deeper, longer lasting scent. Lavender blooms there from late June to August and the flower buds are harvested from mid July to late August. After harvesting the flowers are dried, cleaned and graded, before being boxed and shipped to us in Lancashire.
All our Provence lavender buds are A.O.C accredited which is a marque of quality in France and translates as Grade 1. We have worked with our French colleagues for many years and have seen their business change from predominantly arable and livestock farming, to almost 100% lavender production. They proudly now grow all of their lavender organically.
With loads of Provence Lavender transported to us throughout the year, we are able to offer it at prices that other sellers can only dream of.
