Rye Grains for Cooking & Milling
Rye (Secale cereale) is a versatile grain cultivated extensively as a cereal, and has growth characteristics much like wheat. It should not to be confused with annual ryegrass which is used for lawn coverage, pasture, and livestock hay.
The nutritional profile of uncooked rye is impressive, with a 100g serving providing 335 kilocalories of food energy. Rich in essential nutrients like protein, dietary fibre, B vitamins (notably niacin and vitamin B6), and various dietary minerals such as manganese and phosphorus, whole rye grains contribute to a wholesome diet.
These could be a superb addition to your culinary repertoire, perfect for breads and a variety of baking needs. Rye is also popular cooked for use in salads etc.
To maintain freshness, store in a cool, dry, and dark place – rye will retain its quality for up to 6 months.
